Riot at U of I?
Above are several photos of the damage taken on September 10, 1968, the day after the protest. Most of the damage took place within a 10-15 minute period around 1am when Chancellor Peltason refused to come out and address the protesting students' concerns. When Peltason refused to address their demands for better room assignments and clearer financial aid information, students took out their frustration on the Illini Union furniture. The school, in a panic, called the police, and, while the damage was relatively minor, 248 students were still arrested.
