The list of demands written in the Fall of 1968 by the Black Student Association

Written by black students after the September 9th incident at the Union, this list shows that although the University of Illinois had made some major changes by admitting a large number of black students, there was still a large amount of work to be done. The Black Students Association wanted the University to fulfill its promise of financial aid to students enrolled in Project 500 and wanted all charges from the Union incident to be dropped. Demands from these black students also included the creation of a Black cultural center and a Black studies department with African-American and African foci. The Black Students Association also echoed demands from members of the Black community of Champaign-Urbana, which included wage increases and increasing the number of Black employees.
