A Change of Emphasis

The BSA, the main political branch of black student organistaion on campus changed its name to the Coalition of Afrikan People in 1973. It was a direct attempt to show solidarity with black people from all walks of life, not just students, because at this time in black political thought solidarity was prized above all else. This happened at the same time as the black student community was diversifying the way they were represented on campus. This was a push to ensure that they would be a relevant student organiation in the future.
