Henry and Peltason.jpg

Shown here are then University President Henry (left) and Chancellor Peltason (right), the people to whom the protesting students wanted to talk the most. They played a crucial role in both starting the SEOP and arresting much of its first class. Even though the students were released on bail shortly after arrest, the fight was not over yet. The charged students gathered much support from black alumni (Concerned Alumni of Chicago), current black students (Black Students Association), the University administration itself, and even some white student groups (Peace and Freedom Party). It took until the summer of 1970 for all charges to be dropped and the SEOP to weather its first major storm.
