Campus Report

This edition of the Campus Report, published in October 1968, explains the purposes and goals of Project 500 and reviews the university’s efforts. Published less than two months after the Illini Union incident, this report shows that the University of Illinois was not only hopeful for success with Project 500, but considered some amount of success attained. Describing SEOP as an experiment to bring in more disadvantaged students, it notes that 565 students were enrolled in the Fall 1968 term under the programs auspices.  In the report, Chancellor Peltason wrote, "we firmly believe that our program when considered in all its aspects has met with a great deal of success" and claimed that Illinois "fully engaged" all problems, financial, academic, and otherwise.
